Ensure you are eating full and proper meals. When you fail to eat full meals it spikes cravings, resulting in snacking. The three meals you consume in a the day should contain the fats, protein and carbohydrates your body needs.
It helps to plan out when you eat. Creating a plan helps you prepare your meals and construct proper portions. Cravings for unhealthier options will be limited because of this. When a meal is prepared ahead of time, you are more likely to look forward to this meal, and less likely to snack on other foods that are not prepared.
Drinking water is a significant source of managing hydration. In fact, a majority of times you're craving or wishing to snack, you are actually just thirsty. A good tip is to drink water, and wait approximately 15 minutes and decide whether you are still hungry. Water helps significantly with decreasing cravings. Are you hungry? Or are you just bored? This is a great question when thinking about your actual hunger. Sometimes we snack on things when we aren't doing anything or doing a leisurely activity such as sitting on the couch and watching TV.
If you are bored or craving unhealthy foods, try distracting yourself. This means you could go for a walk with a friend, clean the house, or reading. Distracting yourself when having the urge to snack can easily help you.
Measuring what you eat helps you track your daily calories. When tracking calories, it helps with making sure you are consistent with your daily caloric intake.
If you have unhealthy foods in the house, try storing them in a place where you cannot reach them. If something requires more work to grab, you are less likely to reach for it.
Lastly, make sure to treat yourself once in a while. Being completely strict and denying yourself any treats can lead to excessive focus on food and feelings of guilt when we eat it. Try consuming treats in moderation. Eating a piece of chocolate is better than eating a whole chocolate bar.
