While coffee and caffeinated tea still provide some hydration, they include caffeine which is a diuretic meaning that more of the water is excreted in urine so it is not being used to the same extent to hydrate you. Caffiene can also give you the jitters and disrupt your sleep. 

Alcohol should be avoided or limited to a maximum of 1-2 drinks per day.  

So, next time you’re reaching for a drink, do your body a favor and opt for water instead.

If you're sweating up a storm at the gym or living in a desert climate, you'll probably need to up your water intake to stay properly hydrated. On the flip side, if you're chilling on the couch binge-watching your favorite show, you might not need quite as much. 

So, how do you know if you're drinking enough water? Well, one clue is the color of your pee. Yep, I went there. If it's pale yellow or clear, you're probably doing just fine in the hydration department. But if it's darker than that, it might be time to up your water game. Other signs of dehydration include dizziness, weakness and confusion. 

Consider your overall health as some conditions such s kidney, thyroid, cardiac disease require special considerations and some medications make you retain water such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), opiate pain medications and some antidepressants.   

Of course, the best way to figure out how much water you need is to listen to your body. Thirst is your body's way of telling you it is already dehydrated and needs more water, so if you're feeling parched, don't ignore those signals. And remember, it's not just about chugging water when you're thirsty—it's about sipping it throughout the day to stay consistently hydrated.
